Rue Mouffetard is a legendary market street in Paris. It's located in the 5th arrondisement and has been around for ages. I suspect some of the charm of yesteryear has been depleted by new touristy restaurants and stores, but much of it is still there. You just have to use a discerning eye to find the original and authentic places. If you are into food and happen to be around the 5th arrondisement, head to this street and slowly browse its offerings. Start at Place Contrescope and head south. The farther south you walk, the better the stores become in my opinion. End at the permanent outdoor market just off Square Saint-Médard.
